Things To Do Between Lorne And Apollo Bay

There are plenty of things to do between Lorne and Apollo Bay, in fact along the way you’ll be covering some of the best spots on the Great Ocean Road. The scenery itself is stunning with a mix of rainforest hinterland and impressive cliff-top & ocean views. There are viewing points all along the journey so you’re able to stop and enjoy it all. It is only a 45-minute drive but some of the highlights include:

  • Teddy’s lookout – Expansive coastal views of the Saint George Rover mouth and rainforest-covered gorge, enjoyed from a viewing platform.
  • Cumberland River – Where the river meets the sea, there are both coastal and river walks you can do here including a walk to Gebbs pool where there is a waterfall and you can enjoy a swim.
  • Whale Spotting – During May and September whales pass quite close to the shore so if you’re lucky you’ll be able to see these magnificent creatures from some of the viewing spots
  • Cape Patton Lookout – A great spot to see koalas in their natural habitat (late afternoon is the best time as this is when they’re more active), explore rock pools and view an amazing view at the lookout.

Things To Do Between Warrnambool And Apollo Bay

It isn’t hard to find things to do between Warrnambool and Apollo Bay. The Great Otway National Park is a lush cool temperate rainforest with waterfalls that flow all year round, rugged coastlines, sandy beaches, rock platforms, fern gullies, lakes and more. There are walks suitable for most abilities, some great camping spots, 4WD roads & tracks, horse riding and mountain bike tracks. You can also experience the thrill of a treetop walk or zip-lining through the trees.

The 12 Apostles is one of the Great Ocean Road’s highlights and is an absolute must-see. You can view this magnificent natural attraction from viewing platforms or you can take the Gibson Steps (all 86 of them!) to view at ground level. Loch Ard Gorge and the Bay Of Islands are also highlighted along the way.

Things To Do Between Colac And Apollo Bay

Heading inland through the Otway Ranges there are some great things to do between Colac and Apollo Bay. Stop for a walk-on of the many rainforest walks, Stevenson Falls is a good spot to experience the lush rainforest, see wildlife and view the falls. The town of Forrest offers some excellent mountain biking and it is a haven for food lovers. A stop at the Forrest Brewery is also a must. And experience the thrill at Yeodene Park in Yeodene with tree rope adventures and ziplining on offer.
