Apollo Bay is only 197 kilometres from Melbourne and you can get here by car, bus, train or plane. The journey is a stunningly scenic drive along the Great Ocean Road. We’ve put together a 3 day itinerary, ideal if you’re thinking about having a long weekend in Apollo Bay.
Begin your long weekend in Apollo Bay with a rainforest walk through the Great Otway National Park. Keep an eye out for some of the local wildlife residents like koalas, echidnas and platypus. The waterfalls flow all year round and there are walks to suit most abilities. Head back into town at midday for lunch at one of the many great cafes or restaurants. It’s a chilled out afternoon with some time to browse the local shops (make sure you check out our local glass studios that have some amazing jewellery and giftware made by local artists) and take a refreshing dip at the beach. End day 1 of your 3 days in Apollo Bay with a stunning sunset cruise out on the water.
This morning it’s a surfing lesson. Experience the thrill of standing up and riding along the waves. After lunch, its time for a bit of relaxation with a massage to soothe your muscles after your lesson before one of your trip highlights — a helicopter or aeroplane flight to the 12 Apostles via the Shipwreck coast and Otway rainforest — the 12 Apostles is an absolute must and the views from the air are sensational.
For dinner, we recommend trying the ‘catch of the day’ at one of the local restaurants so you get to try some of the fresh local seafood we’re known for. If you’re not ready to call it a night you could head to the local brewhouse to try some of the many beers on offer.
On the last day of your 3 day itinerary, begin with invigorating yoga on the beach. After breakfast at one of the local cafes, we’re heading to the Cape Otway Lightstation. Learn about the local history, see the amazing views from the Lighthouse Balcony and maybe even have a scone for brunch at the cafe.
This afternoon’s activity is a kayak tour to the Australian Fur Seal Colony where you’ll also get some snorkelling in. We know you will have had an amazing time and don’t want your long weekend in Apollo Bay to end… but don’t worry, you can always come back again!
There is a great range of accommodation options to choose from for your 3 days in Apollo Bay including:
